Board Member Expectations

1. Understand and support WillMar Center's mission.

2. As an ambassador to WillMar, represent and nurture the culture of the organization.

3. Attend and prepare for a minimum of six (6) Board meetings per year.

4. Make WillMar Center one of your top three priorities in giving (among church, alma mater, etc.), and make a personally meaningful financial donation each year.

5. Play an active role in developing friends and supporters of WillMar Center.

6. Solicit donations from at least three individuals, corporations and/or philanthropies each year on behalf of WillMar Center.

7. Share your professional expertise on the Board.

8. Make sound, informed decisions, acting in good faith and in the best interest of WillMar Center for Bereaved Children.

9. Participate in self assessment as well as Board's assessment annually.

10. Be prepared and willing to serve as an officer of the Board or lead a committee.

11. Be active in Board recruitment.

 

Criteria for New Board Members

We are looking for people who:

1. Exemplify the mission and cause represented by WillMar Center--compassionate, independent, committed people.

2. Are fueled to assist in WillMar Center's growth and development by a passionate belief in the importance of the service offered to grieving children and families.

3. Have positions of strong influence, and who can leverage community involvement.

4. Are willing to make phone calls, visits or sign letters that will open doors to corporate, foundation and individual givers.

5. Will be involved in the development of a comprehensive fund raising plan and be thoroughly familiar with and committed to it.

6. Lead by example in their commitment, giving and involvement.

7. Will advocate for the organization with all contacts--especially potential donors.

8. Are willing to accompany the Executive Director on calls to solicit prospects.

9. Will motivate others to get involved and give.

10. Will join the Board and proactively learn and assist the Board and staff to seek excellence in program services and all aspects of the organization.
